Advantages compared to alumina:
Zirconia has better impact strength;
Zirconia is harder than alumina;
Zirconia can be ground to a finer surface finish than alumina. Zirconia linings have a surface finish of 4RMS, which is three to four times as
smooth as aluminum oxide.
All three of these property advantages translate into a lower cost of ownership. The improved wear directly extends the life of the sleeve, while the
improved impact strength significantly reduces the cost of replacing damaged bushings in the field. At the same time, improvements in surface
finish have indirect effects. A finer surface finish means less friction with elastomers and metal pump pistons, extending piston life and reducing
pump cooling requirements.
